Which rules apply to home electrical installations in Lithuania
Three key orders of the Minister of Energy set how electrical installations must be built — from cable selection to bathrooms and saunas. A short guide with links.
The key documents
The General Rules for Electrical Installations (2012, No. 1-22) set requirements for selecting conductors and devices, metering, earthing, surge protection, testing and measurements — and since 2016 also for EV charging points.
The Rules for Electrical Lines and Wiring (2011, No. 1-309) govern the wiring itself and were last amended in May 2025. The Rules for Special Rooms and Processes (2013, No. 1-52) apply to residential buildings, bathrooms, showers, pools and saunas.
What it means for you
The rules are mandatory when installing new, reconstructing or substantially renovating electrical installations. In practice, when you renovate a flat or house, the wiring must meet current requirements — especially in wet rooms. Hire professionals and ask them to explain what is done and why.
